We're Beside You Every Step of The Way

The philosophy of our firm is very simple. If the problem is important to you, it is important to us. We are committed to going the extra mile in defending your employment rights. Together, we have nearly 75 years experience in virtually every facet of labor and employment law. The employment disputes we have handled, which run the gamut from refusal to hire to wrongful termination, include hostile work environment, discriminatory conditions of employment, national origin/foreign accent discrimination, family and medical leave rights, compensation, severance agreements and retaliation. With new clients, we typically spend a few minutes on the telephone with you to obtain at least a broad understanding of the problem.

Sometimes, we can advise you over the phone whether we think you have a case and, if so, whether we can help you. More often, however, we schedule an initial consultation, which generally runs an hour or perhaps longer depending on the complexity of the issues and which, in contrast to an initial phone call, involves a cost. At the end of the meeting, we will be in a better position to evaluate potential claims, provide advice, and perhaps figure out a plan going forward. If you do not have a case in our judgment, we will tell you so at the end of the meeting. If you do have a case, we will discuss in detail with you the options for moving forward, and the cost of the various options. More often than not, we recommend preparation of a demand letter to your employer, or former employer, describing the claims that we believe can be successfully pursued. Sometimes, the demand letter results in a negotiated resolution of the dispute, and sometimes not. If not, we discuss other alternatives with you with the goal of reaching the best result in the most cost effective way.

Attorney Steven C. Kahn
Founder

Steven C. Kahn has practiced labor and employment law since 1969. For many years, he was an enforcement attorney with the National Labor Relations Board and then, on the state level, with the Massachusetts Labor Relations Commissions, which has jurisdiction over public employees.

Mr. Kahn has been responsible for a wide range of employment litigation in the private and public sectors, including, in particular, wrongful discharge, retaliation, sexual harassment, wage and hour and employee benefits.

At different times in his career, Mr. Kahn has represented management and individual employees in defending against, or pursuing, employment claims. He also has been active in providing mediation services in the federal sector.

Mr. Kahn co-authored The Legal Guide To Human Resources (LGHR), which has been described as "perhaps the most comprehensive, single-volume treatment of federal employment law" and is West Group’s leading publication in the human resources field. LGHR is available for purchase on Thomson West Publications.
