Credit repair is a business or activity undertaken to improve one’s credit score. If a person can repair his or her credit, he or she can enjoy many benefits of access to more credit. Lawyers who provide credit repair services generally interpose themselves between the client and the credit bureau or agency involved in some aspect related to the credit report or score. When dealing with credit agencies or creditors, a lawyer will attempt to negotiate the debt and request that the creditor remove or alter the entry relating to the debt on the client’s credit report. This type of repair can provide immediate results. Other times, a lawyer will write to the credit bureaus directly on behalf of the client, requesting a change or removal of data. This, too, can cause an immediate repair of the score.
