What Happens After A New Hire Is Reported?

Information is stored on the State Directory of New Hires, and used to locate non­custodial parents for child support enforcement action. If there is a support order on file in Wisconsin, the employer may be issued a notice to withhold child support from the employee’s wages. Information in the State Directory will also be used to detect fraud and prevent benefit overpayments in Unemployment Insurance, Workers Compensation and public assistance programs.
