Non­custodial parents, or parents who currently do not have primary physical custody of their child(ren), have an important role in the child support process. Noncustodial parents have rights just like custodial parents do.  A hearing may be conducted to determine the appropriate amount of child support or to modify it after there is a change in one of the parent’s circumstances. Noncustodial parents may also have a right to a “parenting time credit” toward their child support obligation for certain overnight stays not otherwise included in the parenting plan.
