What Is Meridia?

Meridia was a popular medication prescribed between 1997 and 2010 to treat obesity and weight maintenance. The drug was manufactured and marketed by a company called Abbott Laboratories, who voluntary pulled the drug from the market after a health study showed a possible link between taking the medication and cardiovascular health problems. Meridia went by several names including Sibutramine, Reductil, and Sibutrex. The FDA has issued a warning against taking Meridia, and recommends that anyone taking Meridia stop immediately, and consult with a healthcare provider.
