Elder Financial Abuse
Full Video Transcript
Not all elder abuse is physical. Many people take advantage of older adults to get access to their money and assets. One common form of financial elder abuse involves phone scams, where callers pretend to be from the government, charities, or companies. Health care workers, friends, family, and financial advisors are also known to take advantage of older adults they are close to. Common signs of financial abuse happening to your loved one can include sudden changes in banking practices, large withdrawals of cash, added names on bank cards, sudden changes to estate planning documents, and disappearing valuables. If you suspect a loved one is the victim of financial abuse, report it to law enforcement or local adult protective services agency. Then visit LawInfo.com to learn more about how you can protect a loved one with an attorney’s help.
