Can I Get In Trouble If My Dog Barks Too Much?

Yes. Your county has the power to regulate barking dogs. This means that if any law enforcement officer of your county finds that your dog is a nuisance because of its barking they can take action to get your dog to stop barking. Therefore, your county could pass an ordinance that would allow them to restrain your animal at an animal shelter, fine you for not regulating your dog’s barking yourself, or give you a warning to keep your dog from barking. It is important to note the each county has its own discretion on how to deal with regulating barking dogs in any way that does not interfere with state law, and therefore the regulations against barking dogs may be different in different counties. Rules and regulations concerning barking dogs do not apply to licensed veterinary homes or animal shelters.
