What Is The Point System

Full Video Transcript

The majority of states utilize a points system to track dangerous or careless drivers. For each and every driving infraction, points are assigned. Accumulating points on your driving record can be very costly. Generally, insurance rates are based in part on how many points a driver has on his or her record. The more points a driver has, the more careless or dangerous the driver is deemed. After enough points, a driver’s license can be suspended or even revoked. It is important for you to learn how your state tallies points and it is a good idea for you to get a copy of your driving record to make sure there are no errors.
