Handling an Out-of-State Traffic Violation

If you received a traffic violation out of state, you might not want to travel back to that state for your court dates. The good news is that for most cases, you can hire an attorney in the state to represent you. You don’t just want to ignore it. Many states have reciprocity agreements with each other under the Driver License Compact and the Nonresident Violator Compact. Member states, therefore, share the information about driver offenses and convictions with each other. This means you can suffer DMV points and insurance hikes in your home state for an out-of-state traffic violation. And, worse yet, if you fail to deal with an out-of-state traffic violation, your home state may be able to suspend your license.
