The starting point for determining your federal and state income tax begins with gross income. Gross income, also known as gross revenue, is the amount of income you receive from all sources. There are also exclusions from gross income but essentially it is the total amount of income received before taking out any deductions, expenses, or taxes. For tax purposes, this figure is the total revenue received before taxes.
