What Do Translators and Interpreters Do in Court?
Full Video Transcript
Translators and interpreters are often used in court proceedings where different languages are spoken, or used between attorneys, clients, or other legal staff in order to ensure clarity. Interpreters usually translate orally, while translators often translate written text. Legal translators and interpreters are trained to understand the specific terminology of the legal field in order to efficiently translate between English and the language that is needed. A deep knowledge of both language and culture is essential for both sides to be confident in the translator’s adequacy and ability to properly communicate what is being said. Translators are usually provided on a need basis within the court system. So if you feel a translator is necessary, make that known to your attorney or other court member.
