Full Video Transcript

A pleading is a document containing formal written statements that is filed with a court by parties in a civil case. There are different types of pleadings filed in a civil action. A complaint is the first pleading filed by a plaintiff. It lists the allegations against the opposing party and asks the court for relief in favor of the plaintiff. The defendant will then file a pleading known as the answer to the complaint, which admits or denies the allegations listed in the complaint.
