Can Your Landlord Stop Your Noisy Neighbors?
Full Video Transcript
Unfortunately, sometimes you get bad neighbors. For example, ones that are unreasonably loud. If speaking to your neighbor about quieting down hasn’t helped, you might complain to your landlord, and he or she might be able to stop it. While a landlord usually can’t interfere with your neighbor’s right to use and enjoy their rented unit, if the noise is excessive to the point where it can be considered as legally interfering with your quiet enjoyment of the property, your landlord may have a legal obligation to stop it, even ultimately evicting the noisy neighbor. If all else fails, you may be able to sue your landlord, asking the court to terminate your lease so you can move out. If you move out or stop paying rent without such court approval, you could be held in breach of your lease, leaving you liable to the landlord.
