Importing Goods Into the US
Full Video Transcript
Importing goods into the United States can be profitable. However, in order to realize those profits, you must make sure that you are complying with all required laws. The easiest way to ensure your compliance with import laws is to hire a reliable, full-service, licensed customs broker. Custom brokers are licensed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Service. They must complete the customs brokers license examination and application, including background check, before their licenses will be issued. A customs broker is responsible for completing all of the documentation that you’ll need to import goods into the U.S. and can advise you on all aspects of importation, including entry procedures, admissibility requirements, classification, valuation, and the rates of duty and applicable taxes and fees for imported merchandise. Import laws are very specific, and implementing those laws is a full-time profession. Individual importers are typically better off focusing on the business of procuring and selling their imports and hiring professional customs brokers to ensure compliance with applicable import laws.
