Januvia Side Effects

Full Video Transcript

Since it was first introduced into the market by Merck in October 2006, there have been quite a few side effects associated with the diabetes drug Januvia. The side effects may vary in severity. Severe side effects include pancreatic cancer, acute pancreatitis, swelling and inflammation of the pancreas, severe abdominal or back pain with nausea or vomiting, and in rare cases, Januvia may have caused a serious and sometimes fatal condition called lactic acidosis, which is when lactic acid builds up in the bloodstream faster than it can be removed. Less serious side effects people have experienced with Januvia include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, sore throat, diarrhea, runny or stuffy nose, and upper respiratory infection.
