Vehicular homicide, also known as vehicular manslaughter, is the unlawful killing of another with the use of a vehicle. Unlike murder, vehicular homicide does not require intent to kill. It is often referred to when a death is the result of the negligent operation of a vehicle. It can also be a result of driving while in the process of committing a crime. Almost every state has their own vehicular homicide statutes. As with other areas of criminal law, many factors are taken into account when charges are brought on someone, including the degree of recklessness and whether alcohol was involved. Vehicular homicide is a serious crime with serious consequences for the accused. If you have been charged with vehicular homicide, you should contact a criminal defense attorney immediately.
