Burglary is the unlawful or forcible entry or attempted entry of a residence. This crime usually, but not always, involves theft. The illegal entry may be by force, such as breaking a window or kicking in a door, or maybe without force, such as entering through an unlocked door or an open window. As long as the person entering has no legal right to enter the structure, a burglary has occurred. Furthermore, burglary doesn’t just apply to your home but also to other structures, such as your garage or shed, or even your hotel if you’re on vacation.
