Advertising Laws

Full Video Transcript

The basic rule for Internet advertising is that you must tell the truth and avoid misleading customers. And whenever you make claims about your product or service — for example that it was voted best in its class, or preferred two-to-one, or whatever your slogan calls for, make sure you have the evidence to back up your claim. Also, if you use any disclaimers, make sure you are clear. The customer should easily understand what your product or service can or cannot do. And if you do a demonstration of your product, it must be done under normal circumstances clearly. Finally, if you offer refunds for dissatisfied customers, then you have to provide the refunds as promised. There are other special advertising rules for certain products or industries. For more information about complying with the advertising laws, contact an attorney in your area today.
