Can You Sue an Airline for Lost Luggage?

Full Video Transcript

There is never a wrong time to go on vacation. Travel allows us to unplug and explore our world. But lost luggage can disrupt any trip. But it can also cost you if you have valuable items in your suitcase. Can you sue an airline for what you’ve lost? Federal law puts most of the burden on you. Airlines must compensate you for the bag’s contents, but they will likely require proof of ownership of all the items. If an airline refuses to refund your money, you can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Transportation. If you can’t come to an agreement over lost luggage, you may be able to sue in small claims court. To protect yourself, consider purchasing travel insurance before a big trip. To learn more about your rights as a traveler, head to LawInfo.com.
