Attorney Scott G. Hoy
Scott G. Hoy is the owner of Hoy Law. He is a life-long resident of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1981 and his Juris Doctor in 1984 at the University of South Dakota. He was admitted to the South Dakota State Bar in 1984. Between 2008 and 2010 Scott did extensive training to graduate from the Trial Lawyers College, which is run by world renowned Trial Lawyer, Gerry Spence.

Attorney James L. Hoy
James Hoy was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in 1979. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Dakota in 1983. During undergraduate school, he became a member of several scholastic honorary societies including Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Beta Kappa.
James received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of South Dakota in 1986. He was admitted to the South Dakota State Bar on the same day he received his law degree. While in law school, he had two articles published in the South Dakota Law Review and served as the Senior Comments Editor of the Law Review.
In 1986, he served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Peter T. Fay, United States Circuit Court Judge, Eleventh Judicial Circuit, in Miami, Florida. In 1987, he began private practice in the law firm of Hoy & Hoy in Sioux Falls. In 1993, he was appointed as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of South Dakota.
In 2004, James joined Hoy Law He has practiced law in Sioux Falls for over twenty-seven years and specializes in general litigation in the state and federal courts.
Attorney Carleton R. "Tex" Hoy
Carleton R. "Tex" Hoy is a native of South Dakota, born and raised in Vermillion. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1950 and his Juris Doctor in 1956 at the University of South Dakota. Tex was a member of the University of South Dakota Board of Law Review from 1955-1956, Law Clerk to U.S. District Judge Mickelson, district of South Dakota from 1956-1957 and Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorney from 1973-1974.
Tex has over 60 years of experience as a trial lawyer and his accomplishments are extensive. He has tried cases in state and federal courts and with the department of labor. He has extensive appeal experience before the South Dakota Supreme Court and the Federal Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota (President, 1979-1980), Second Circuit Bar Association, South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association (President, 1968-1969), American College of Trial Lawyers, Fellow of the International Society of Barristers (President, 1988-1989) and Fellow of International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
Attorney Mike Strain
Michael W. Strain, owner of Strain/Morman Law Firm, was born in Valentine, Nebraska, and grew up on a ranch in White River, South Dakota. At the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, he received his Bachelor of Science in 1983 and his Juris Doctor in 1987. He was admitted to the State Bar of South Dakota in 1987 and then served as law clerk for the Eighth Judicial Circuit until 1988. In 1988, he became an associate with the Morman Law Firm. He served as deputy city attorney from 1989 until 1997. In 1995, he was also admitted to the Wyoming State Bar.
The other organizations of which he is a member are the American Bar Association, the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice and the Spence Trial Lawyers College. Mr. Strain was an instructor at the Trial Lawyers College for nine years and has taught and lectured in trial techniques at colleges and bar conventions in Georgia, Ohio, Texas, California, Louisiana, West Virginia, South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.
In 2004, he was recognized as the South Dakota Trial Lawyer of the Year, being the youngest recipient ever of this prestigious award. He is recognized as one of The National Trial Lawyers' Top 100 Trial Lawyers in America.
