Attorney James S. Brewer

James S. Brewer is a 1981 graduate of the University of Hartford and a 1987 graduate of the University of Bridgeport School of Law, which later became Quinnipiac University School of Law.  Prior to law school, he served in the United States Army, overseas on active duty,  as a Field Artillery and Nuclear Security Officer with the 3D Armored Division.

Attorney Brewer was previously an Assistant Prosecutor in the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office in Newark, New Jersey, where he investigated and tried felony and specially assigned cases.

He has appeared frequently before administrative agencies and in state and federal courts. His practice is limited to representing government and other employees in claims of workplace mistreatment and wrongful termination.

He has briefed and argued numerous appeals to the New Jersey and Connecticut Appellate Courts, the Connecticut Supreme Court and the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City.

A strong advocate, prosecuting claims on behalf of employees who have been subjected to mistreatment by their employers. He has successfully handled hundreds of claims including race, sex and age discrimination, sexual harassment and hostile work environment claims.

He successfully represented many citizens who have had their rights violated by law enforcement, municipalities, government agencies, and officials.  He is an experienced and comprehensive trial and appellate lawyer.

Attorney Brewer is an Adjunct Professor in the Criminal Justice Department at the University of Hartford.   He is a member of the American Bar Association and Connecticut Bar Association.

While in law school he served as a law clerk to a United States District Court Magistrate-Judge and worked as an intern for Connecticut Governor William O’Neil and at the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office.

He was the 1992 recipient of the Hartford County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award. He was a high school and college football official for over 20 years.
