Topamax Side Effects

Full Video Transcript

Topamax, or Topiramate, is a drug produced by Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to help prevent migraines. Since approval, over 4 million people have taken Topamax, and its producer claims the drug is the number one most-prescribed migraine-prevention brand in the U.S. Some side effects of Topamax include numbness and tingling, fatigue, taste change, weight loss, and difficulty concentrating. On March 4, 2011, the FDA issued a warning to patients stating those who took Topamax while pregnant have an increased risk of giving birth to a child with birth defects, such as a cleft lip or cleft palate. If you took Topamax while pregnant, and gave birth to a child who suffered from a birth defect, you and your child may be entitled to compensation.
