There are pros and cons to plea bargaining. Plea bargains are very common and it is estimated that 95% of criminal cases are concluded with some form of plea bargain. The courts often have a goal of relieving their overly burdened calendars by having the prosecution and defense reach an agreement. Oftentimes defendants facing several crimes and many years in jail will accept plea bargain to ensure themselves less time in jail and possibly have some charges dropped. Whether or not you agree to a plea bargain will be a matter to take up with your attorneym considering each case is differentm and they can best advise you on the proper course of action.
