What Type Of Attorney Can Help Me After A Car Accident

Full Video Transcript

If you are in a car accident and there are injuries involved, it’s likely you’ll eventually be dealing with attorneys. If you were responsible for the accident, then your car insurance company will help guide your legal defense. If you were the accident victim, then you’ll want to speak with a personal injury attorney. Depending on your case, your personal injury attorney will accept your case on what’s known as a contingency basis. This means you won’t have to pay for your attorney’s help until you obtain a settlement or a verdict with the person that hit you. Usually, your personal injury attorney will want at least 30 percent of what you obtain in settlement. If your case goes to trial, that percentage will usually increase to over 40 percent. Although personal injury lawsuits can be brief, it’s common for relatively minor cases to last over a year.
