Agency Adoptions

Full Video Transcript

There are two types of agency adoptions: public agency adoptions and private agency adoptions. Each type has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, if extensive counseling is important to you, private agency adoption might be a better fit. Private agencies will take the time to counsel the adoptive parents, birth parents and the children. However, the drawback with adoption through private agencies is that it can be very expensive. Moreover, the adoption process may be very competitive as private agencies have a limited number of children available for adoption. Public agencies on the other hand have a greater number of children available for adoption, and it will cost you almost nothing. However, if you were looking to adopt a newborn, a public agency might not be the right fit for you because the children [available through] public agencies are often older.
