What happens if a complaint is filed against me with the Colorado State Board of Medical Examiners?

The Board of Medical Examiners will review the complaint and provide the doctor with a copy of the complaint. The doctor must then respond in writing and provide copies of any supporting documentation such as medical records. Once the doctor responds, the complaint is reviewed by the Inquiry Panel. The Inquiry Panel can resolve the case or refer it to the Department of Regulatory Agencies’ Office of Investigations. The Office of Investigations may find an outside consultant or an expert in the particular area of medicine to review the case. The Office of Investigations may also conduct relevant interviews. After the investigation is completed, the Inquiry Panel either dismisses the case or decides what actions to take against the doctor.
