How Can a Lender Foreclose on a Property in Maine?

All Maine foreclosures occur through the judicial system. A lender may sue a borrower in state court if the borrower defaults on his or her mortgage loan. A complaint must be provided along with a lis pendens that provides the public with notice of the upcoming foreclosure sale. State law provides specific public notice and sale requirements with which lenders must comply.
