Admiralty & Maritime Law
How are cruise ships that depart from U.S. ports regulated?
Both U.S. based cruise ships and those that operate under the flag of a foreign nation are required to comply with the vessel inspection laws of the United States. Additionally, cruise ships, regardless of their country of origin must comply with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and other international regulations. U.S. based ships may also be subject to additional requirements set forth by the United States Coast Guard.
