Attorney Lorraine Sabalja
Summary:
Lorraine was first introduced to the area of Trust and Estate Law, immediately following law school, when she was a law clerk in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, and was exposed to a broad range of general equity matters including guardianships, receiverships, and trusts.
Looking to return to New York, Lorraine later accepted a position at a small litigation firm where she had the opportunity to build her courtroom skills. She then settled into what ultimately became her passion – directly working with clients to develop their estate plans – as Assistant Counsel, Planned Giving, for Hadassah (a Women’s organization committed to building hospitals and equitable educational opportunities) with a focus on establishing donor charitable trusts, private giving and fundraising.
Her career then pivoted back to the area that she received her BBA Degree - marketing and advertising – where she was able to leverage her law and marketing background in legal compliance and project management for leading healthcare and pharmaceutical clients.
After taking time away to help raise her family, she felt an undeniable call to return to legal practice and reclaim her passion for representing clients. She was introduced to Access Justice Brooklyn (formerly The Brooklyn Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project), where she counseled clients probono on preparation of estate and elderly planning documents and was awarded the Liz Padilla Excellence in Public Service Award 2021. Prior to joining Wheatley Pritchard and Associates, PLLC, Lorraine worked in private practice as a Trust and Estates and Elder Law attorney.
Lorraine completed her undergraduate education at Loyola University of Maryland, and later attended Quinnipiac University Law School in Connecticut where she earned her JD. She received her license to practice law from the New York and Connecticut State Bars in 1997.
