Karla Heaman is a nurse attorney at McKeen & Associates. Karla works behind the scenes at McKeen & Associates, investigating the viability of cases, with a focus on birth trauma cases.
Karla joined McKeen & Associates in 2014, after 19 years practicing as a registered nurse at a major hospital system in southeastern Michigan. Her experience as a surgical nurse for GI and organ transplant surgery, as well as in the neonatal intensive care unit, has provided her with invaluable insight that is beneficial to the firm. With her medical and legal expertise, Karla provides theories of negligence in cases presented to her for review and then works with expert witnesses. Her deep connections with medical experts has proven an instrumental element in the successful outcome of cases.

More importantly, it gave Scott a deep respect for those who work hard to deliver proper care and resentment of those who don't.
Scott graduated from Kalamazoo College with a Bachelor of the Arts in Economics and Political Science. Scott also received an MBA from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He went on to earn his law degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. While in law school, Scott clerked at McKeen & Associates and interned for Justice Elizabeth Welch on the Michigan Supreme Court.In addition, he founded the Cooley "Health Law Society." Scott was ranked first in his law school class with a perfect GPA, one of 17 students in the history of the school to do so. Scott was also named the Distinguished Student of his class.
