Hometown Attorneys. Hometown Values.

What's the most valuable attribute in a lawyer? It's the willingness to work hard to achieve the client's objective. That's what we do at Walden, Blair & Associates, PLLC.

We are your neighbors, Evan Walden and Russ Blair. We cheer only for the Vols. We drink only Mayfield's milk. We love McMinn County and have close ties to Monroe, Meigs, Bradley and Polk counties.

We find it meaningful to serve the people in our community in the legal areas that trouble almost everyone:

  • Paying for medical bills following a serious car accident
  • Filing a claim when you are injured on the job and can't work
  • Obtaining Social Security Disability benefits after being turned down twice
  • Working through a difficult divorce
  • Putting your affairs in order for your family

We are an all-purpose law firm tackling the common problems people have. We can explain to you what a law means, help you start a business using just the right structure, resolve property disputes peacefully or get the second opinion you need to make the best decision.

Attorney Evan Walden

I’m a 1999 graduate of McMinn County High School, a 2003 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and a 2010 graduate of the Nashville School of Law. My wonderful wife Kari and I are both from Athens and we have no intentions of ever leaving. Kari is a full-time pharmacist at Walgreens and she works part-time keeping me from destroying our house.

My route to becoming a lawyer was not the most common, but it was tremendously gratifying. After a few years of selling pumps for my parents' business I decided that a lifetime of dad yelling at me could only be avoided by going back to school. In 2006 I decided to go to law school and that August I moved to Nashville to attend the Nashville School of Law (NSL). NSL is a 4-year law school with classes at night and is designed to allow working people to get a law degree.

I quickly found a job at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Franklin, TN and spent my first 6 months of law school working in the golf department and going to school in the evenings. Around January of 2007 I finally found a job at a law firm, sort of. I was the copy room clerk, low man on the totem pole. My desk was in the basement of a 15 story building and my job was pretty simple: make sure the copy machines had paper in them, make sure the refrigerators were full of sodas, and deliver the mail to the secretaries.

Six months later I moved up the ladder and took a job with a different law firm where I managed personal injury cases, worked with clients and insurance companies, and helped negotiate settlements. A few months passed and homesickness sunk in, so I decided to move back to Athens. I soon found a job with an attorney in Athens and would work there until about 3:30 in the afternoon on weekdays. After work I would load up and start my commute to Nashville for class. I had class two, three, and sometimes four nights a week. Every night after class I’d drive home and repeat the process the next day for three very long and very miserable years.

Finally the years of commutes and study sessions were over and life could begin again. I practiced for a year before going out on my own and opening Walden & Associates, PLLC in 2011. As Walden & Associates began to pick up steam, it soon became time to expand. In January of 2013 I formed a partnership with attorney and McMinn County native Russell J. Blair and what started as Walden & Associates is now Walden Blair & Associates, PLLC.

Attorney Russell Blair

I am lifelong resident of Etowah, McMinn County and a graduate of McMinn Central High School (2001).  I am married to the former Savannah Passmore, who is a Speech Therapist for McMinn County Schools and Woods Memorial Hospital.  In our free time, my lovely wife and I enjoy two often amusing, yet unavailing pastimes: (1) cheering on the Tennessee Vols; and (2) adoring the company of our 140 lb. “puppy,” Knox the Newfoundland dog.  I am a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church of Etowah.

Upon graduating from McMinn Central in 2001, I got my first “real” job working the early morning shift loading trucks at UPS.  I started every day at 3:30 a.m. and worked pulling boxes from a seemingly never-ending conveyor belt and loaded them on the big brown trucks.  After clocking out at 9:00 a.m., I would then attend classes at Tennessee Wesleyan College where I pursued a History degree.  Eager never to see the hour of 3:30 a.m. again, nor spend a lifetime lifting boxes, I set my sights on going to law school.  In my final semester of college, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to accept an internship with the Tennessee State Legislature, where I served as primary clerk for the House Education Committee and assistant clerk of the House State and Local Government Committee.  I graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 2005 with a B.A. in History with Highest Honors and won the Harry Russell Caldwell Award for Excellence in History.  From there, I was off to Knoxville where I earned my Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2008.  During law school, I was a staff member of  Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law,  participated in the UT Legal Clinic as counsel for indigent clients in criminal, civil, housing and juvenile matters, and worked as a clerk in a couple of local law firms.

Since finishing law school and passing the bar, my career ambition has been to be a small town, "country" lawyer with a general civil practice.  I practiced for a little over four years in my hometown of Etowah before joining Evan to form Walden Blair & Associates, PLLC.  I consider this part of East Tennessee the greatest place in the world to live and I take great pride in this community. As a 2010 Leadership McMinn graduate, I am proud that Walden Blair & Associates, PLLC is committed to providing effective legal service with “hometown values” and being a strong community partner.
