In the U.S. the law in this field was initially passed to protect the rights of African Americans who faced egregious conditions, particularly in the deep South. Today, however, racial discrimination lawyers may assert violations of civil rights on behalf of a number of minority groups. Cases in this field are nearly always grounded in Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. However, they may also be grounded in other federal law and state law as well.
