Verdicts & Settlements

$2,267,879.37 - 18-wheeler Accident
An 18 wheeler rear-ends another 18 wheeler in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Plaintiff was a resident of Miami, Florida. After undergoing neck, back, and shoulder surgery, the defendants settled the case 60 days before trial for $2,267,879.37.

$2,000,000 - Death of Mother
Client pulled out from stop sign and was "t-boned" by a police car traveling 85 m.p.h. because the officer was late for roll call. Suit filed against the city police department and the gas station near the site of the accident. Gas station's signs had blocked the view of the road which contributed to the accident. A jury found that the gas station was 80% at fault while the police officer was found to be 20% at fault. Case was offered to be settled for $350,000.00 but a jury awarded the client $2,000,000.00 after trial.

$1,950,000 - Boating Accident
The clients were involved in a boating accident. Plaintiff underwent a cervical fusion, two shoulder surgeries, and head injury. The defense argued the plaintiff experienced post concussion syndrome that should have resolved within 6 months. The passengers case settled for $1.95 million and the operator of the boat was paid $275,000. The passengers case was settled 5 days before trial. The plaintiff had no lost wage claim.

$1,800,000 - Death Cause by Electrocution
A Murphy Law Firm client received a $1,800,000 jury verdict. A 34-year-old male grabbed an electric line 12 inches from a rooftop and was electrocuted. The father made a claim for the death of his son.

The electric line violated the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and the protective insulation was worn off. Entergy of Louisiana claimed that the deceased son had 50% fault even though Entergy is considered a superior actor.

After a three day trial, the jury awarded $1,800,000. The jury held Entergy 65% at fault and the son 35% at fault for his death.

$1,800,000 - Death Caused by 18-Wheeler Rear-End Collision
Man in his late 60s was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler and died. Family members filed a lawsuit. It settled three weeks before trial in federal court for $1.8 Million.
