Montana Serious Injury Attorneys
Lanning, Harris & Conklin, P. C., has been a Great Falls, Montana, law firm since 1986. However, members of the firm have practiced together in other combinations since the 1960's. Although the firm is heavily involved in litigating, we are a general practice firm and pride ourselves on our ability and desire to serve all the legal needs of our clients, large and small. Our clients include ordinary folks needing legal assistance with matters such as injury claims, divorces, estates, and Medicaid planning, local businesses facing breach of contract and employment-related claims and corporation issues, and large national corporations and insurance companies seeking the defense of Montana litigation of all kinds.
We maintain a relaxed and friendly office atmosphere with a small and efficient staff on hand at all times to handle your routine questions and to place you in contact with the attorney or paralegal with whom you are working. Our office is computerized and networked, and it is our aim to keep your legal costs at the lowest level that is consistent with effective and successful representation. We recognize our clients' need to be kept informed of the progress of their representation. Our office policy is to return all phone calls. The following practice areas illustrate the broad nature of the legal services we can provide.
How do I know if I need an attorney?
If you have been seriously injured or are unsure as to the outcome of your injury, an experienced personal injury attorney should always be consulted before you give any statements or sign any papers of any kind, and as soon after the injury occurs as possible.
Most firms offer a free consultation, with no obligation; therefore, you have nothing to lose by consulting an attorney before you accept the insurance company offer. There is a statute of limitations that requires you to file suit within a specific period of time, depending upon the circumstances of your case; otherwise you will be prohibited from obtaining any compensation for your injuries. An attorney will be able to help you keep within the statute of limitations.
What is a Contingency Fee?
A contingency fee is a fee that is used by lawyers in most personal injury cases, and is dependent upon the attorney's successful resolution of your case. A contingency fee is paid as a percentage of your monetary recovery; typically it is one third of the awarded settlement. A contingency fee is what is meant when you hear “there is no fee unless we win your case."
If I have a personal injury claim, do I have to go to court?
Most personal injury cases are settled out of court between opposing lawyers, or by the insurance company. However, if your case does go to trial you most likely will have to appear, so that your testimony can be documented.
