Kellye is licensed to practice law in all Texas State Courts.
Ms. Hughes focuses her practice on cases involving abused and neglected children. She has been lead counsel on more than 2, 000 cases and has participated as lead counsel in several jury trials. As part of her dedication to the practice of law and training of lawyers, she frequently speaks at continuing legal education events throughout the state. She has authored over 30 legal papers. In 2008, Ms. Hughes received the distinguished honor of being named Alumni of the Year for Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, now known as A&M University School of Law, for her work on educating attorneys and participation in National Adoption Day. She has personally handled over 400 adoptions and served on the National Adoption Day Committee from 2006 through 2016, where she has supervised volunteer attorneys in the adoption of over 300 abused and neglected children who were in the foster care system.
The State Bar of Texas nominated Ms. Hughes for two terms to the State Bar Child Abused and Neglect Committee where she was co-chair of the education sub-committee. The committee was responsible for planning the annual Advanced Family Law Course's CPS Half Day Session (2002-2007). Ms. Hughes also participated on the Legislative Committee where she tracked legislation and relevant to child welfare and reported recommendations to the State Bar of Texas.
Kellye was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She earned her B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1987 and her J.D. from Texas A&M School of Law in 1995.
After law school, Kellye was employed by the Tarrant County District Attorney's office as a prosecutor assigned to child abuse and neglect cases representing Child Protective Services. Upon entering private practice, Kellye focused her career in adoption law and in child protection cases.
In her free time, Kellye is active in her community, church and teaches Bible classes with her husband. She enjoys traveling, martial arts and snorkeling.
