Charles "Chuck" Ross, Partner
Whether he is representing an individual at trial or advising a company on how best to negotiate the dangerous shoals of an investigation, Chuck Ross is sought out for his skill, expertise, and dedication to achieving the best results for his clients. He has successfully represented a wide variety of individuals and companies in both criminal and administrative matters — from stockbrokers, investment advisers, hedge fund managers, and compliance officers to noted entertainers and athletes.
Criminal matters Chuck has handled include allegations of possession of child pornography, narcotics distribution, gambling, racketeering, murder, rape and assault.
In recent trial matters, Chuck has represented an independent insurance broker charged with committing a fraud against the country’s largest credit insurance company; a New York City Buildings Department official charged with corruption; an investment adviser charged with marketing materials fraud and “soft dollar” rebate fraud; a former police officer charged with attempted murder; an anesthesiologist accused of fraudulently billing insurance providers; a local government official on tax evasion charges; an individual charged with attempted murder in connection with a night club assault; an elderly woman charged with mail fraud and money laundering in a highly publicized matter involving allegations of insurance fraud and murder; and a banking official on charges of money laundering.
Chuck is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, and the Federal Bar Council. He serves as vice chair of the Judiciary Committee of the New York City Bar Association, and frequently lectures on topics involving white collar defense and criminal trial skills and strategy. He has consulted on criminal justice issues for the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and CNBC and Court TV.
Prior to founding Charles A. Ross & Associates, Chuck was chair of the White Collar Criminal Defense Group at Herrick, Feinstein, and a name partner at the boutique criminal defense firm Brafman & Ross (now Brafman & Associates).
As Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Southern District office of the Legal Aid Society’s Federal Unit from 1988 to 1991, Chuck conducted numerous jury trials to verdict. Before that, he was a trial attorney for the Criminal Defense Division of Legal Aid in the South Bronx. He is a cum laude graduate of New York Law School.
Dorothy Bellini
With over twenty years of experience as a paralegal and office manager in the legal sector, Dorothy Bellini comes to Charles A. Ross & Associates after working in several different specializations within the legal field. Her expertise in all of these areas has proven to be an invaluable asset to both Charles A. Ross & Associates, LLC and to the firm’s clients. Ms. Bellini is employed by the firm as a consultant. She helps the firm run smoothly, consulting as a facilities manager, and contract paralegal. In this capacity her duties include the firm’s daily operations, both financial and administrative. In addition, her substantial legal background makes her capable of performing a variety of legal tasks for the firm.
Prior to her association with Charles A. Ross & Associates, LLC, she was the office manager at Marsh Valentine & Donohoe LLC, a high profile matrimonial and trusts & estate firm, where she managed and supervised the start-up of the new firm. Before leaving to join Marsh Valentine & Donohoe, she managed and supervised 20+ attorneys and paralegals at Schoeman, Marsh & Updike LLP. Ms. Bellini has also held paralegal positions at several other prestigious law firms located in New York and on Long Island.
Ms. Bellini is the sole proprietor of Sterling Legal Management & Consulting LLC, is a member of the Association of Legal Administrators, and is a Notary Public.
Dorea Silverman
Dorea Silverman is a graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she was an editor of the Cardozo Law Review. Dorea gained significant practical experience in criminal law through her participation in Cardozo’s competitive and highly regarded Criminal Defense and Criminal Appeals Clinics. Begun by Professors Barry Scheck and Lawrence Vogelman, the Criminal Defense Clinic has produced some of the top criminal defense attorneys in the country. As a student lawyer, Dorea successfully represented various clients and obtained dismissals in several cases. Dorea also completed a two-semester internship with the Criminal Defense Division of The Legal Aid Society.
Prior to joining our firm, Dorea was an associate in the Criminal Division of a prominent New York firm, where she worked on a wide variety of state and federal criminal matters, including narcotics conspiracy, grand larceny, violent crimes, and sex offenses. Dorea achieved favorable outcomes — including dismissals — for clients in numerous cases.
Dorea is admitted to practice in New York State and ?the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. She is a member of the New York City Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers Association, and the Federal Bar Council.
