Juvenile Justice System
The juvenile justice system adjudicates cases in which a minor is involved in the criminal process. The process for a minor can be less punitive than the general criminal process, because a minor is thought to have a good chance of being helped more by various agencies, rather than being sentenced to prison. At the same time, many cases in the juvenile justice system impose penalties that involve limited incarceration.
