Initial Hearings
Initial hearings are a key component of the trial process, particularly in criminal cases. The purpose of these proceedings is usually to determine whether there is sufficient evidence upon which to remand a case for trial. Lawyers sometimes submit motions at this stage of the process, arguing for various procedural remedies. Therefore, at initial hearings the judge will also rule on these motions. At these proceedings the judge will also schedule all future court dates.
