By launching a more stringent application process this week, LawInfo.com has enhanced its screening of Lead Counsel Attorneys, creating the only program of its kind in the nation to guarantee the credentials of its attorney database for consumers seeking qualified legal representation.

With the creation of a detailed, uniform screening process, attorneys must complete an application of more than 20 questions detailing their legal expertise and practice history as well as provide peer references in order to apply for Lead Counsel status.

More than just an address, phone number or Web site link, the Lead Counsel Rated Attorney Program is an elite group of attorneys and lawyers who are carefully screened by professionals before joining a legal database. Once an attorney submits an online application, LawInfo.com investigates the attorney's expertise and qualifications as they pertain to the lawyer's specific practice area.

All attorneys are encouraged to apply and there is no charge to become Lead Counsel rated.

Since February of 1995, LawInfo.com has been providing free legal information and Web site listings to attorneys and consumers online. The latest screening process ensures that the attorney panels in each geographic region represent highly-skilled members of the legal community in each practice area.

"The carefully screened online database provides an invaluable service to consumers when they need qualified lawyers the most," said LawInfo.com's Chief Operating Officer, Cara Mae Harrison. "Our team has rolled out an excellent tool which will ultimately benefit our users," she said.

Lead Counsel Rated Attorneys average 21.6 years of experience practicing law, and devote at least 30 percent of their practices to their repsective area of legal expertise.

LawInfo conducts peer reference checks to verify status and reputation in the legal community. Finally, all Lead Counsel Rated attorneys are verified to be in good standing with their state bar associations and have no client-related disciplinary action.

In addition to its Lead Counsel Program, LawInfo.com, provides free consumer resources including legal discussion boards, forms, FAQs and legal news. For more information on LawInfo's Lead Counsel Program contact (800) 397-3743 or e-mail cmharrison@lawinfo.com.
