Maryland DWI Law - Information
You can be arrested for DWI when:
A person who operates a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, narcotic, hallucinogenic or habit-producing drug, or operates a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or more by weight of alcohol in the defendant's blood.
Maryland DWI penalties:
First Offense
- a fine of no more than $1,000.00
- possible term of imprisonment of no more than 1 year
Second Offense
- a fine of no more than $2,000.00
- possible term of imprisonment of no more than 2 years
- inpatient treatment program for substance abuse
- license suspension 120 days
- Interlock device installed in your car at your own expense for 3 to 12 months
Third Offense
- a fine of no more than $3,000.00
- possible term of imprisonment of no more than 3 years
- inpatient treatment program for substance abuse
- Interlock device installed in your car at your own expense for 12 months
