Federal Labor Law

Federal labor law includes statutes, case law, administrative rulings and provisions of the U.S. Constitution. Many subjects within the employer-employee relationship are covered by federal labor law, including wage and hours issues, discrimination cases, OSHA safety regulations, workers compensation and collective bargaining matters. The field includes many legal aspects including hearings and formal trials. Most states have similar rules and procedures. Most of the U.S. administrative regulation is promulgated by bureaus of the Department of Labor. Discrimination is a matter of Constitutional interpretation. Many other subjects are primarily governed by statutes such as the Family & Medical Leave Act, ERISA, the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Federal Claims Act.
