While just about everyone should have a will, most of us don’t. A will is a written document that outlines how your property will be distributed upon your death, who will care for your children (if you have any), and can provide for any special instructions you’d like to make about your affairs. It is actually a fairly simple legal document in the grand spectrum of legal instruments. There are different types of wills, but most wills are referred to as "simple wills". State laws vary slightly regarding requirements for a valid will. While a will can usually be drawn up by an attorney for a reasonable fee, it is also possible to draw up your own will using standard forms. It is recommended, however, that you have an attorney review your will to determine it meets your desired objectives and any particular legal requirements in your state.
