A business franchise is generally a turn-key business opportunity offered by an existing company to a person or another business. The most common type of franchise is a fast food restaurant like McDonalds or Burger King. In a business franchise contract the business who owns the franchise is called the franchisor and the person who wants to open one of the franchises offered is called the franchisee. A franchise contract is usually governed not only by general business law issues and contract law, but in many states also by a body of rules and regulations specific to franchise business. When contemplating buying a business franchise an experienced lawyer can provide valuable services in negotiating the franchise agreement and reviewing the state franchise rules and regulations.
