Litigation Law Lawyers

Litigation is the process by which a person brings a claim for damages to court or defends against litigation started by another party. Litigation law relates to the entire process of filing a lawsuit, discovery and motion practice, trials, judgments and awards of damages. The law related to the civil litigation system also pertains to appeals from civil litigation cases. Criminal litigation law refers to the similar process by which a criminal trial takes place. In criminal cases, most states provide legal counsel to defendants who cannot afford a lawyer. It is considered unfair for a criminal defendant to go without counsel because he or she is unlikely to understand the law and the process adequately. In the civil litigation process most states do not provide counsel to parties who cannot afford lawyers.
