Appellate Lawyer
An
appellate lawyer practices before courts of appeals, bringing motions and briefs to those courts on behalf of clients. Attorneys who specialize in this work typically represent people at trial as well, though there are some who limit their practice to appeals work. An appellate lawyer is often both a skilled orator and a skilled writer, using both of these skills to persuade a court to adopt her position. An attorney with both of these skills is often an outstanding trial litigator as well.
