Search Warrant
A search warrant is a legal document, issued by a court, that allows the police or another government official to enter property looking for evidence of a crime. To do this, the government must establish probable cause that the sought after evidence will be found in the area to be searched. At times, courts will issue a search warrant based on what is called “exigent circumstances.” These circumstances are present when the evidence itself may be moved, destroyed or otherwise disappear if it is not quickly secured.
