Renters Insurance
People leasing an apartment or home are not necessarily covered for personal and property losses under the owner’s policies. For that reason, many people buy renter’s insurance. This type of policy is generally not expensive, but provides peace of mind to people who lease, especially in buildings without security systems and other forms of protection against intrusion, fire or flood. Renters insurance generally pays a benefit upon the loss or damage of personal property of the policy holder. Roommates would generally not be able to receive a benefit for damaged or lost personal property based on the policy of another roommate.
