Overtime Law
Overtime law may be either federal or state regulation. There are at least two aspects of this legal issue. In the first instance, overtime law relates to specific industries or professions and regulates hours based on the desire to avoid injuries to workers or the public. In the second instance, the legal provisions relate to assuring that when people work more than the standard 40 hour work week they are compensated adequately. Not all businesses are covered by these legal provisions. Lawyers who work in this field are often consulted to determine whether in a particular circumstance the provisions relating to extra pay or relating to whether worker’s can work more than 40 hours per week apply.
