Individual Health Insurance
Individual health insurance is coverage that applies to one person, but does not cover their spouse or children. Often, though companies provide coverage for spouse and children, the worker’s spouse is covered by a policy at his or her place of work. Many people purchase individual health insurance policies when they are single and convert to a family policy later. This type of policy is also good for people not covered by a benefit program at work. Given the high cost of medical care, most people who can afford a policy purchase one. However, so many Americans are still not covered by a policy that Congress continues to explore passing a law providing coverage for every person in the country.
